Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s 21 Jump Street movie reboot/sequel wasn’t really about guns, drugs, undercover cops and getting wasted. OK, actually it was about all those things, but it was also about brotherhood and the importance of friendship. By the end of the movie, Jenko (Channing Tatum) and Schmidt (Jonah Hill) were not only highly trained and extremely professional police officers, but also firm friends forged in the fires of combat.

Sticking with the last movie’s air of self-aware humor, 22 Jump Street will see Jenko and Schmidt investigating the exact same case they did in the last movie, except this time they’re hunting for H.F.S. dealers at a college instead of a high school. They also have more relationship kinks to work out, which means that it’s time for a relationship counselor.

In a new clip from 22 Jump Street, Jenko and Schmidt are just settling into dorm life when they meet twins Kenny and Keith (played by the Lucas brothers). A behind-the-scenes featurette for 22 Jump Street delves into this theme of brotherhood – both in front of the camera with Tatum and Hill, and off-camera with directors Lord and Miller, who describe themselves as being in a “work marriage.” The two definitely seem to be a formula for success, with all three of their feature films so far managing to both impress critics and perform well at the box office.

Along with Hill and Tatum, 22 Jump Street will also feature the return of familiar faces from the first movie, including Ice Cube as the very angry Captain Dickson, Nick Offerman as Deputy Chief Hardy and Dave Franco as Eric Molson. Richard Grieco, who played Officer Dennis Booker in the original series (and his own spin-off series), will make a cameo appearance. Let’s hope for Booker’s sake that his return goes down a little better than Tom Hanson and Doug Penhall’s.

Experience has taught us to be wary of comedy sequels, which often fail to live up the first movie’s standards, but after so many great trailers there are plenty of reasons to believe that 22 Jump Street will be one of the exceptions.
